The Challenge

Where they started

The Oracle EBS R12 environment supported a business with significant financial and supply-chain complexity. Payments Manager and Cash Management sat at the centre of processes linked to cash visibility, banking, payment execution and financial control. Any changes to these modules had to align with the wider finance landscape and with the organisation's custom corporate payment system.

The group also had requirements that could not be met through standard functionality alone. Advanced custom development was needed to support specialised processes, but every additional component increased the importance of disciplined design and long-term support. Custom solutions had to remain reliable, work with standard Oracle functionality and be understood when upgrades, troubleshooting or future enhancements were required.

This created a multidisciplinary support challenge. Functional consultants needed to understand the business process and application configuration. Developers had to maintain custom components and interfaces. Database administrators were responsible for the underlying platform. Without a coordinated team, incidents could easily move between specialists while accountability became blurred and resolution times increased.

The long lifespan of the environment added further complexity. Since the initial R12 programme, business priorities, technology versions, operating structures and integration needs have continued to change. The organisation needed a partner that could preserve knowledge of the original implementation while helping the platform evolve. Skills transfer was equally important so that internal teams could build capability without losing access to specialist support when more complex issues emerged.

The Approach

How APPSolve delivered it

  1. 1

APPSolve brought application development, database administration and Oracle EBS functional consulting together within one delivery model. This allowed the team to investigate requirements and incidents across the full technology stack rather than treating each layer as a separate problem. The approach also gave the client a clearer route for escalation and accountability.

  2. 2

During the R12 programme, APPSolve took ownership of Payments Manager and Cash Management. The work required close alignment with the broader finance implementation, banking processes and financial controls. APPSolve also developed advanced custom solutions where the organisation's requirements extended beyond standard Oracle functionality.

  3. 3

The support model expanded after implementation. APPSolve continued to assist across finance modules, supply-chain management modules and the custom corporate payment system. Because the same partner understood both the standard Oracle environment and the bespoke elements surrounding it, the group could address issues and enhancements with greater context and less risk of knowledge being lost between suppliers.

  4. 4

Knowledge sharing formed an important part of the relationship. APPSolve worked alongside internal stakeholders, transferred skills and provided access to experienced resources when specialist intervention was required. This helped the organisation maintain internal ownership of the platform while retaining a dependable external team for complex development, database and functional work.

Implementation Highlights

What defined this engagement

A defining feature of the engagement was APPSolve's participation in the original Oracle EBS R12 project team. Responsibility for Payments Manager and Cash Management placed the company within two areas that directly influence payment control, banking processes and cash-related financial operations.

The implementation combined standard Oracle capability with advanced custom development. APPSolve's developers extended the platform for specialised requirements, while functional consultants and database specialists supported the surrounding application environment. This combination helped ensure that custom solutions were designed and maintained with an understanding of the wider system.

The relationship continued from May 2008 into long-term operational support. Over this period, APPSolve retained knowledge of the implementation, custom components and subsequent changes to the environment. That continuity became increasingly valuable as the platform matured and the number of historical design decisions and dependencies grew.

The engagement also placed a strong emphasis on service quality and skills transfer. APPSolve achieved excellent assessments for its experience, delivery approach, knowledge sharing and overall service. These outcomes reflected a partnership that could respond to immediate requirements while contributing to the longer-term sustainability of the Oracle environment.

The Results

What changed

16+ years of continuity

A single partner has sustained the environment from R12 implementation to today.

Custom systems retained

Bespoke payment and finance components remain reliably supported.

Excellent service ratings

Recognised for experience, delivery approach and knowledge sharing.

The mining group established a long-term Oracle support model that connected functional consulting, technical development and database administration. Instead of coordinating several unrelated providers, the organisation had access to a partner able to work across finance, supply chain, payment functionality and custom systems.

The continuity of the relationship helped preserve knowledge from the R12 implementation through years of operational support and change. Internal teams benefited from skills transfer, while APPSolve remained available for specialised requirements, enhancements and complex incidents. The result was a support partnership built around both immediate delivery and the long-term maintainability of the platform.

APPSolve has been part of our Oracle environment since the original R12 project. That continuity means they understand not just the standard platform, but every custom decision we've made along the way.
